We’re all creative and with that, we speak the same language, this is why we were so excited to work together on this. The discovery process of how a completely different industry paralleled how we came to do what we do was fascinating. It wasn’t long before the whole concept for the story was planned out.

It’s encouraging to hear how someone so talented in the fashion industry started out by just trying. With no formal training, simply being lead by curiosity and a love for fashion, he journeyed to where he is today. It has been evident that his passion is infused in his work. With the backdrop of this brand story being his first ever solo hosted fashion show at his studio on 89 Princess, we witnessed someone on the verge of massive success. Lennard is a visionary artist; he’s focused on creating clothes that are as individual and unique as the people who end up wearing them. We love seeing someone so authentic, polite, and passionate and we’re excited to see the brand take off from here. Music licensed through With Etiquette.

As part of the workshop, we were split into groups of three to conceptualize, pitch, write, storyboard, shoot, edit, color, mix and produce a short film based on the theme of “time”. With Etiquette graciously gave us a song to work with and our limitations were: keep it under 60 seconds, and there can not be use of sync sound. One of the best experiences was meeting and getting to work with some amazingly talented filmmakers from all over the world. Each team would have a director, producer, director of photography, camera a, camera b and additional help (including an actress). At the end of the day, we all had the exact same footage to work with, and it was up to each of us individually to edit together the story we were trying to tell. It’s been fascinating seeing the differences in interpretations from our team-mates. Although our time out there was short (three days), we took in what we could, hoping to return again. When I started editing this film, I spent some time thinking about the wedding and what made the events so unique. This story brings together a lot of meaningful details and at the same time, I feel it parallels who they are as people and the feeling I got from their wedding. Warm, magical, mystical, romantic, unique. I’ve actually still never heard of a wedding film based on a ceremony that’s happened at midnight – so this one’s extra special for me, both from a technical challenge and a first.

Simone, of Social Events BC did a fabulous job working so hard, along with Deb to get all of these little (and big) details together – she is so fun to work with and just made everyone comfortable with her extremely positive personality. Seeing Gabe’s (of Perspectiveye) photos of the event was inspiring to say the least – this guy is raw talent mixed with a great personality. Soleiha also did a fantastic job, leading the ceremony sharing beautiful words.

We found, as we were filming, there were so many well-defined parallels between what we were doing here, and where we want to go as filmmakers. This film touches on where we’ve come from, what gives us that push to continue, and where we’re headed as a team. As a sequential progression, we’re revealing a bit of what our journey has been so far. The colour is warm, sharp and punchy -exentuating the beautify of what we’re exploring out here in British Columbia; a place we hadn’t been to film a wedding before.

This story parallels who we are, as a team and our journey as it stands. We are very excited to be able to have the opportunity to do what we love and share that gift with others. We’ve had ups and downs, but we know where we want to go and what we want to do. We’re very much looking forward to where life takes us on our journey over this next 365 days and even more looking forward to sharing the films we’ve created over the next little while.

Close friends and family had arrived, some flown in from around the country by the time we got there. Deb envisioned a mystical, magical ceremony with a small group of people at midnight – marking the two years they had been together, on the same date that they first met (at midnight).

It was an absolute pleasure working with the couple, the talented photographer – Gabe McClintock of Perspectiveye, Simone Greenwood of Social Events BC, Soleiha, the marriage commissioner enjoying tasty delights by Red Tree Catering, and the talented live band Chad Klinger.

The reception would take place the next day with more friends in the backyard under a tent and they both wanted to give their guests come context to what they were there celebrating. Because they wanted to keep the ceremony intimate, we were there to put this film together and present after the night had passed by. Technically, this was a fair challenge to create as it was pitched black outside with only tea lights and small LED lights pointed up to the trees on the side. The two of us filmed with the fastest Canon glass we could get our hands on, with the help of our 5D MarkIIs larger censors. And then, nothing is more exciting than presenting the film – especially because most of the guests hadn’t been a part of the ceremony and Deb & Dail hadn’t seen any of the footage yet. We were blown away by the reaction – as much work that goes into a film like this in a small timeframe, it is more than worth the effort to see a few smiles, laughs, and tears. We will share more of the events between the first and second night in a film later to come.

Our good friends over at Paperback Films (Chris & Mark) helped us film throughout the day.It’s always a blast working with them both; they’re talented, kind people who share the same passion for filmmaking as we do. It was a pleasure working with Rebecca Whitney Photography. Rebecca was so fun and made everyone there comfortable in-front of the camera.

The film we created for Danielle & Jason marked our first Same Day Edit, as we shared the excitement with all of their guests at the reception, watching the finished film up on the big screen. All around the room, I overheard people wondering how this was even possible (seeing moments from the ceremony that had just taken place a couple of hours before watching the film). It’s surreal to watch and was a memorable experience for us, as filmmakers, as well as everyone there that day.
